Age and weight loss can create dramatic changes in your skin. Genetics may leave their mark. Dieting and exercising may be less than effective to improve these appearances, but a neck lift or neck liposuction can.

What Is A Neck Lift?

To restore the desired appearance and reduce problem areas, a neck lift can remove signs of aging. Like most procedures involving restoration, Neck lifts usually require either sedatives or general anesthesia. During a neck lift procedure, Dr. Birely will make an incision beginning in front of the ear lobe. The line will wrap around behind the ear and end in the lower scalp.

Extra skin is removed, and muscle and fat are repositioned to lift and tighten the jowl and neck. In some cases, a second incision under the chin may also be required for optimal results. Finally, Dr. Birely will remove the excess skin. Sutures and adhesives will be applied to secure your new appearance.

Am I Eligible for a Neck Lift?

Interested patients can look at their desires to determine their neck lift candidacy. A neck lift alone or, one with facial liposuction can improve appearances and meet those desires. If you opt out of a full facelift, because your problem areas are in lower regions, a neck lift offers a great alternative. If you do not suffer from any major medical conditions that impair healing or have made the effort to minimize smoking, the surgery may also benefit you. A consultation with Baltimore Plastic Surgeon Dr. Birely can reveal your suitability for surgery.

What Can a Neck Lift Do for Me?

A neck lift helps to tighten the excess skin from your neck to diminish undesirable wrinkling and sagging. Some fat may be removed and underlying muscles and connective tissue are tightened. After your surgery, you can expect your neck to appear more youthful and contoured. As an additional benefit, many patients experience increased self-confidence. A neck lift not only improves the look and feel of your neck, but the lower sections of your face will look their best as well.

What Can I Expect From My Neck Lift Recovery?

After your procedure, you can expect recovery to last to four weeks. Although, for many individuals, recovery can move along more quickly. Some patients, instead of requiring the allotted time, find that two weeks of healing brings them back to their workplace. The thin tube draining extra fluid and the bandage that reduces swelling will be removed.

During your weeks of recovery, keeping the incision elevated and avoiding head movement will improve healing. Dr. Birely may give you medication for comfort and give you further instructions during this time. By the end of your recovery period, any scarring will begin to mature, and most likely, become less visible. You can then enjoy your new neck and facial appearance!
