What is Morpheus8 microneedling?

Conventional microneedling involves a series of tiny needles that penetrate the skin to stimulate collagen production. Collagen is a protein that is found in large amounts in youthful complexions, giving the skin a hydrated, supple appearance. Over time, the body’s ability to produce collagen decreases, leaving the skin looking more hollow. Wrinkles, lines, and a loss of definition are all a result of diminished collagen.

Morpheus8 in Bel Air, MD expands the microneedling procedure by using radiofrequency energy to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, eliciting anti-aging effects. By heating up the subdermal adipose tissue, the skin becomes tighter, giving you a refreshed, youthful look.

What is the procedure like?

Morpheus8 is currently only offered at our Bel Air office. It works similarly to a microneedling tool in that it causes light trauma to the skin. Rather than simply pricking the skin, however, this device also utilizes radiofrequency, which stimulates collagen production in the lower levels of the dermis. The device’s pins penetrate into the subdermal tissue, causing an increase in blood flow and, subsequently, collagen production.

The surgeon begins by applying a numbing cream to the targeted zone. The handheld device is then pressed onto the area, allowing its tiny needles to perforate the skin. When the device is set in place, it emits radiofrequency waves. The heat generated from these waves goes into the deepest layers of the dermis, leaving the patient with a tighter appearance. The entire procedure doesn’t last more than two hours.

What is the recovery like?

The amount of downtime needed following this procedure depends largely on the extent of work done. Patients are generally able to get back to their regular routines within 48 hours. Minor swelling and redness are common, but they usually aren’t very severe and won’t prevent you from going about your day.

Many clients see an immediate improvement in their skin texture and tone. However, it can take from 3 to 6 months to see the full results, as collagen stores increase gradually over time. The resulting effects are long-lasting.
